They are riding high from winning the league title for the second year in a row, after clinching the title on the final day of the season, defeating Vitoria SC 2-0.
Benfica was denied this season's Portuguese league title and finished the season as runners up to Sporting, so they would love nothing more than to beat their Lisbon rivals here. What makes this final even more exciting, aside from the existing drama and 118-year-old rivalry, is that these two teams met less than two weeks ago in an intense and thrilling Lisbon Derby.

The recent Derby de Lisboa played out at the Stadio da Luz in front of an electric atmosphere, Sporting scored just three and a half minutes into the game as Viktor Gyökeres made a brilliant pass to Francisco Trincão, who finished the attack by finishing smartly with signature aplomb.
Then, just after the hour mark, the prolific Vangelis Pavlidis made a stunning solo run, gliding through multiple defenders until he brilliantly set up Kerem Akturkoglu for the equalizer. Add in near misses, extreme energy and excitement, spectacular saves, a very late red card, and the thriller delivered on all fronts by ultimately ending in a 1-1 draw.
The Portuguese Final Cup - One Game, One Winner
Taça de Portugal Generali Tranquilidade, as it is officially now called for sponsorship reasons, should be a game for the ages this year. The tournament has been held since 1938 and includes the top four league divisions: Primeira Liga (top tier), Liga Portugal 2 (second tier), Liga 3 (third tier), and Campeonato de Portugal (fourth tier).
