Fatima Sana is a Pakistani international cricketer and the captain of the Pakistan women’s national team. She is a right-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, operating primarily as a bowling all-rounder.
She has become one of Pakistan’s most important younger players, combining new-ball seam bowling with increasingly useful lower-order batting and leadership responsibilities.
Fatima progressed through Pakistan’s domestic system with Karachi before later representing Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited. She was selected for Pakistan’s senior squad for the 2019 tour of South Africa and made her ODI debut on 6 May 2019, followed by her T20I debut nine days later.
Her early career quickly established her as one of Pakistan’s brightest fast-bowling prospects. In 2021, against the West Indies, she recorded her first ODI five-wicket haul with 5/39.
She featured in major international tournaments including the 2020 T20 World Cup, 2022 ODI World Cup, 2022 Commonwealth Games, and 2024 T20 World Cup.
Her franchise experience has also broadened considerably, including participation in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League and New Zealand domestic cricket.
By the mid-2020s, ODI cricket had become an important part of Fatima’s development as a genuine all-rounder.
Her ability to contribute substantially with both bat and ball has made her particularly valuable in a Pakistan side often reliant on its bowling attack.
Fatima has also become a regular component of Pakistan’s T20I side, providing medium-fast bowling alongside increasingly aggressive lower-order batting.
By this stage of her career, she had accumulated more than 40 T20I wickets while developing into one of Pakistan’s principal seam options.
Fatima first captained Pakistan in an ODI against New Zealand in December 2023 after regular captain Nida Dar was injured. Her leadership responsibilities expanded dramatically the following year.
In August 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board appointed her captain for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, making her one of the youngest captains at the tournament. She subsequently became Pakistan’s regular captain across the national setup.
In April 2025, she captained Pakistan through the Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where Pakistan won all five matches and secured qualification for the 2025 World Cup. Fatima was subsequently named captain of the ICC’s Team of the Tournament.

Rather than relying entirely on raw pace, Fatima generally combines movement, accuracy and variation to trouble batters.
Fatima’s rise is especially significant because she became the leader of Pakistan’s next generation while still in her early twenties. Her 2021 ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award marked her internationally as one of the strongest young prospects in women’s cricket.
Her combination of seam bowling, improving batting and captaincy gives Pakistan a genuine all-round centerpiece around which to build its national side.
Fatima Sana is one of the leading young all-rounders in Pakistani women’s cricket. Since debuting internationally at only 17 in 2019, she has progressed from promising medium-fast bowler into a frontline international player and captain of Pakistan.
With a five-wicket ODI haul, growing contributions with the bat, overseas franchise experience, an ICC Emerging Player award and national captaincy already on her résumé, she entered 2026 as one of the most important figures in Pakistan women’s cricket and still had much of her prime career ahead of her.
