Glenn James Maxwell is an Australian international cricketer recognised as an explosive batting all-rounder. A right-handed batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Maxwell has played for Australia in all three formats and is particularly renowned for his aggressive, inventive stroke-making in limited-overs cricket. Known by the nickname “The Big Show” or “Maxi”, he has been central to Australia’s white-ball success through the 2010s and early 2020s. Domestically he represents Victoria and the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), and has featured in multiple franchise leagues globally.
Maxwell made his ODI debut in August 2012 versus Afghanistan and his T20I debut a month later against Pakistan. His Test debut came in March 2013 against India and he played seven Tests, including a century against India in 2017—making him the second Australian man to score a hundred in all three international formats.
In limited overs, Maxwell became known for his high scoring and rapid strike rates. He scored a 40-ball century at the 2023 Cricket World Cup—the fastest World Cup century on record—and followed with one of the fastest double centuries in ODI history later in the same tournament. He holds records for multiple T20I centuries with Australia, tying for the most in men’s international T20 cricket alongside Rohit Sharma.
Maxwell was part of Australia’s 2015 and 2023 Cricket World Cup winning squads, and the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winning team, contributing with critical innings in high-stakes matches.
In mid-2025, he retired from One-Day International (ODI) cricket to focus on T20 formats and franchise commitments after 149 ODI appearances, closing a prolific chapter in the 50-over game.
Maxwell’s domestic career began with Victoria in Australia, and he became a mainstay for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL. He set a BBL record with an unbeaten 154 for Melbourne Stars, one of the league’s highest individual scores, contributing to team success in multiple seasons.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Maxwell has featured for teams including Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, among others. He withdrew from the 2026 IPL auctions, concluding a long association with the league after more than a decade of participation.
Internationally he has also appeared for English county sides such as Hampshire, Surrey, Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Warwickshire, as well as London Spirit in The Hundred and Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket, showcasing his global franchise experience.
Maxwell’s batting is characterised by rapid scoring, improvisation, and fearlessness, making him one of the most dynamic white-ball batters of his era. He combines innovative shot-making—including reverse sweeps, scoops, and powerful drives—with a high strike rate in both ODIs and T20Is. His occasional off-spin bowling adds tactical flexibility, particularly in limited overs.
His fielding, athleticism, and versatility have further enhanced his value, allowing captains to deploy him in various roles depending on match situations. He has often been a match-decider in T20 fixtures and global tournaments alike.
Glenn Maxwell is one of Australia’s most influential white-ball all-round cricketers, combining explosive batting with useful bowling and athletic fielding. His innovative style, record-setting performances, and contributions to multiple World Cup victories solidify his place as a defining figure in modern limited-overs cricket.
