Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar is an Indian international cricketer and captain of the India women’s national cricket team. A right-handed top-order batter and right-arm off-break bowler, she is regarded as one of the most influential players in the history of Indian women’s cricket.
Known for her aggressive strokeplay, power hitting, leadership, and ability to produce major innings under pressure, Harmanpreet has represented India across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is while also becoming a prominent player in franchise cricket around the world.
Harmanpreet developed her cricket in Punjab and made her international debut for India against Pakistan in the 2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup, shortly before her 20th birthday. She subsequently established herself as a regular across formats and emerged as one of India’s leading attacking batters.
Her leadership qualities also emerged relatively early. She captained India during the 2012 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup final when regular captain Mithali Raj and vice-captain Jhulan Goswami were unavailable, helping India secure the championship.
In 2016, she became the first Indian woman to sign for an overseas T20 franchise, joining Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League. She later played extensively in overseas competitions while remaining one of India’s central international players.
Her most famous individual performance came during the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup semifinal against Australia, when she produced a spectacular unbeaten 171 from 115 balls, helping India reach the final.
Her greatest achievement came in 2025, when she captained India to the Women's Cricket World Cup, becoming the first Indian captain to win an ICC Women's World Cup title.
Harmanpreet is primarily an aggressive right-handed batter, capable of both constructing longer innings and dramatically increasing the scoring rate.
Her playing style includes powerful leg-side hitting, strong boundary-hitting ability, aggressive use of the crease against spin, effective acceleration during the middle and death overs, and occasional right-arm off-spin.
Unlike more traditional accumulation-focused batters, Harmanpreet's greatest strength has often been her ability to change the momentum of a match quickly, particularly in high-pressure tournament cricket.
Harmanpreet has received significant recognition beyond her playing statistics. She received India’s Arjuna Award in 2017, became the first Indian woman selected among Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year in 2023, and received the Padma Shri in 2026.
