Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah is an Indian international cricketer regarded as one of the world’s premier fast bowlers. A right-arm fast bowler and right-handed lower-order batter, Bumrah plays for the India national team across all three formats and has captained India in Test and T20 International matches. Known for his unorthodox action, accurate yorkers, and ability to perform in high-pressure situations, Bumrah has redefined modern pace bowling. He also represents Gujarat domestically and the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Bumrah made his ODI and T20I debuts for India in January 2016 during a tour of Australia, quickly establishing himself as a leading wicket-taker in limited-overs cricket. He debuted in Test cricket in January 2018 against South Africa. Across his career he has been a key member of India’s bowling attack in major tournaments, including the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets at an exceptional economy rate. Bumrah became the first bowler in history to attain the No. 1 ranking in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings in all three formats and the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in each format.

Bumrah has frequently captained the Indian side in Tests and T20Is when senior leaders were unavailable, and has served as vice-captain of the Test team since late 2023. He has been named in ICC Teams of the Year across formats multiple times, reflecting sustained performance at the highest level.
Bumrah made his domestic debut for Gujarat in the 2012–13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, playing a key role in Gujarat’s first title win in the competition. He entered the IPL in 2013 with the Mumbai Indians, becoming one of their most reliable bowlers across seasons. In the IPL, he has been among the team’s leading wicket-takers, contributing to multiple championship victories and becoming second only to Lasith Malinga in career wickets for the franchise.
Bumrah’s bowling is characterised by a distinctive, compact run-up and a whippy delivery stride, which generate pace, sharp seam movement, and pinpoint accuracy. His ability to deliver yorkers at will, maintain tight lines, and perform in all phases of the game—powerplay, middle overs, and death bowling—has made him one of the most feared pace bowlers in world cricket.
He has achieved several notable feats, including being the fastest Indian pacer to 200 Test wickets, and taking five-wicket hauls in major overseas conditions, underlining his adaptability and effectiveness in diverse environments.
Jasprit Bumrah is widely recognised as one of the most impactful fast bowlers of his generation. His technical skill, strategic bowling, and consistency across formats have made him indispensable to India’s success in international cricket and a defining figure in modern pace bowling.
