Biography & Career Journey
Siuatonga “Tonga” Likiliki is an international rugby league footballer best known for his explosive power, boundary-pushing runs, and career highlights across the NRL, international test matches, and the Queensland Cup.
Junior Phenom & Toyota Cup Stardom
Raised in Auckland, New Zealand, of Tongan descent, Likiliki honed his craft playing junior footy for the Marist Saints in the Auckland Rugby League and attending Mount Albert Grammar School. Scouted early by the New Zealand Warriors, he quickly established himself as one of the most dominant backs in the National Youth Competition (NYC / Toyota Cup).
During his time in the NYC, Likiliki was a defensive nightmare for opposition edge defenders, recording 29 tries in 50 appearances. His sheer athleticism and tackle-busting ability earned him back-to-back NYC Team of the Year honors in 2009 and 2010. He capped off his elite junior career by scoring a pivotal try in the Warriors' 2010 NYC Grand Final championship victory.
Professional & International Career
Likiliki made his top-grade NRL debut for the New Zealand Warriors in 2009 before joining the Newcastle Knights (2011–2013), where he earned a spot in the NSW Cup Team of the Year. He later signed with the Gold Coast Titans and went on to anchor the backline for the Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup.
On the international stage, Likiliki proudly represented Tonga (Mate Ma'a Tonga), earning his national debut against the New Zealand Kiwis in 2009. He went on to represent Tonga in the 2009 Pacific Cup and was named to the Tongan squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
