Stuart Terence Roger Binny is a former Indian international cricketer and all-rounder known for his right-handed batting and right-arm medium-fast bowling. Binny built a reputation as a versatile limited-overs player capable of contributing with both bat and ball. He represented India in Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20 Internationals between 2014 and 2016, while also enjoying a long domestic career with Karnataka and several teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Binny made his ODI debut for India on 28 January 2014 against New Zealand, followed by his Test debut on 9 July 2014 against England and his T20I debut on 17 July 2015 against Zimbabwe.
One of the defining moments of his international career came in June 2014, when he produced remarkable bowling figures of 6 wickets for 4 runs against Bangladesh in an ODI in Mirpur. This performance became the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODI cricket at the time and remains one of the most economical five-plus wicket hauls in the format’s history.
Although his international career was relatively brief, Binny contributed as a seam-bowling all-rounder and provided balance in limited-overs squads during the mid-2010s.
Binny began his domestic career with Karnataka during the 2003–04 season, later developing into an important all-round contributor in India’s domestic competitions.
During the 2011–12 Ranji Trophy season, he produced one of his strongest performances, scoring heavily with the bat and taking 20 wickets, including a ten-wicket match haul against Odisha.
In the Indian Premier League, Binny played for multiple franchises including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Across his IPL career he appeared in around 95 matches, contributing as a seam-bowling all-rounder in the middle order.
Later in his career he also represented teams such as Nagaland in domestic cricket and participated in veteran competitions such as Legends League Cricket.
Binny officially retired from all forms of cricket on 30 August 2021, concluding a professional career that spanned nearly two decades.
Binny was known as a medium-pace bowling all-rounder who could swing the ball and provide useful batting contributions in the middle or lower order. His ability to move the ball in helpful conditions and score quick runs made him a valuable limited-overs option.
While he did not have a long international tenure, his record-breaking ODI spell and strong domestic performances ensured his place in Indian cricket history.
