Suryakumar Ashok Yadav is an Indian international cricketer renowned for his inventive batting and aggressive limited-overs prowess. A right-handed middle-order batter and occasional right-arm off-break bowler, he represents the India national cricket team across formats and serves as the captain of India’s T20 International side. Known in the cricket community as “Mr. 360” for his range of shots around the ground, Yadav combines timing and power to score consistently in white-ball cricket.
Yadav made his T20I debut for India in March 2021 against England and followed with his ODI debut in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. He played his only Test match in February 2023 versus Australia and has focused primarily on limited-overs formats. Over his international career he has accumulated more than 3,000 international runs, with four T20I centuries, which stands among the highest by any batsman in the format as of 2024. Most of his career runs and all of his centuries have come in T20Is. He held the top spot in the ICC men’s T20I batting rankings from October 2022 to June 2024.
In recognition of his performances in the shortest format, Yadav was awarded ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2022 and 2023, and was named in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year in both seasons.
Under his leadership, India won the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and secured victories in regional competitions, including the 2025 Asia Cup. Yadav has been entrusted with T20I captaincy since late 2023 and was re-appointed after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20s.
In domestic cricket, Yadav has been a consistent performer for Mumbai since his debut in 2010. He also played club and age-group cricket in Mumbai, including for the Parsi Gymkhana Cricket Club, before rising through the ranks to national selection.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Yadav began with Kolkata Knight Riders, contributing to their 2014 title. He later joined the Mumbai Indians, with whom he won IPL championships in 2019 and 2020. Over his IPL career, Yadav has been among the team’s leading run-scorers, known for anchoring innings and accelerating scoring in the middle overs.
Yadav’s batting is defined by an expansive range of strokes, combining technical soundness with innovation against pace and spin alike. His timing and ability to find gaps make him particularly effective in the T20 format, where he often bats in the middle order to accelerate scoring. He also contributes occasional off-spin bowling and is an agile fielder.
Suryakumar Yadav stands as one of India’s premier limited-overs batters, combining innovative stroke play with statistical consistency across T20Is and ODIs. As T20I captain and a key IPL performer, he has shaped modern middle-order batting and remains a central figure for Indian cricket in global white-ball competitions.
