Description
WCFL closed 2016 out on a strong note with WCFL 16 and looks to make a statement to kick off the new year. That is evident with the fight card that owner/matchmaker Ralph Garcia has worked endlessly to put together. The main event features a Welterweight championship match between Jonathan Polynice and Gregg Ellis. Both fighters are undefeated entering the match. The co-main event may just steal the entire evening with a match-up between Jessica Borga and Chelsea McCoy (C) for the WCFL Flyweight title. McCoy won the title at WCFL 16 and Borga is coming in to the match with a ton of hype around her.
"I am looking forward to Borga vs McCoy." Garcia said. "I made it the co-main event because I think it will live up to the hype."
Borga and McCoy are known as the "Black Widow" and "Black Mamba" respectively. This fight will surely deliver to the MMA fans.
Making his MMA debut is thew highly decorated BJJ practitioner out of Gracie Tampa South, Benjamin Zapata. Zapata has been coaching and competing in Jiu Jitsu for many years. It will be interesting to see how his BJJ experience plays out. Gracie Tampa has a reputation of strong Jiu Jitsu with many fighters having success in MMA.
The WCFL Lightweight title will also be on the line in a match that features John Marquez vs Carlos Espinosa.
WCFL 17 will feature 14 amateur MMA fights in total. Tickets can still be purchased but as with WCFL shows before it, it will sell out. WCFL 17 is schedule to have the fights start at 6 and doors will open at 5.
